On 22nd March, the Old Vicarage School completed a whole school ‘Chicken Walk’ in aid of the Charity Shivia. The Old Vicarage School, Richmond’s only Independent Girls’ School, has a long history of supporting local charities and this year’s chosen charity is Shivia, which was founded by former OVS pupil, Oli Blecher.
From the youngest preschool girls at the school’s nursery ‘Little Vic,’ to the oldest children, over 200 girls donned their chicken accessories and running shoes to complete the Richmond Park route, which at its longest is 6 km.
With the focus on fun and fundraising, girls and teaching staff were joined by the whole OVS community, who were there to support them. With the fundraising total already over £1000 and counting, the event hopes to raise a significant sum for Shiva’s vital work.
Shiva provides people living in poverty with the tools and training to set up a small enterprise, keeping chickens and selling their produce. They empower the people in most need, particularly women, to work their own way out of poverty and provide a brighter future for themselves and their families.
