The Parents’ Association, affectionately known as The Friends of the Old Vicarage School (FOVS), performs a vital role in ensuring that new parents are welcomed, have all the information they need and are an initial social link on which many lasting friendships are based.
Parent representatives from each class meet regularly to feed suggestions to the school and disseminate information.
FOVS runs many events throughout the year to provide fun to all the school community. In recent years, the FOVS has organised a whole-school disco, cinema trip, visits from reindeer and the Christmas Fair. It also funded three inspiring sports women from the Mintridge Foundation to spend a day at the school coaching the girls and talking about their achievements representing Great Britain in sailing, hockey and netball.
There are also events directed specifically at the parents, such as a highly competitive quiz night, fathers’ interschool cricket matches against parents of neighbouring boys’ schools and a more lavish celebratory gala evening. The largest fundraiser is the annual summer fair, but with the second-hand uniform, towel, Christmas wrapping paper sales and year group bake sales all contributing significantly.
FOVS raises a lot of money for the school for wonderful extras, such as playground games, a 3D printer and numerous items that are welcome additions in the classroom and which enhance the enjoyment of learning for the girls. Money is also raised for a charity as chosen by the girls in the annual charity election. Last year the girls raised money for Small Steps.
