A huge importance is placed on language learning at the Old Vicarage School. While French is the main language taught throughout the curriculum from Little Vic onwards, French for bilingual children and Spanish are also offered to girls in the Upper School as part of the extra-curricular provision.
Every aspect of the French language is covered in the curriculum; from linguistics and grammar, to cultural understanding, to reading and writing. Girls are also taught the importance of placing French in context globally and are taught about Francophone countries throughout the world.
Girls at the Old Vicarage School are given the tools to speak with confidence; to this aim we use song, role-play and games and in Upper School we have timetabled speaking lessons. There is an exciting opportunity for girls in Years 5 and 6 to put on the first ever full-scale production in French this academic year ... watch this space for details.
Our French teaching at Old Vicarage School culminates in an unforgettable week-long immersive residential trip to France in the summer term of Year 6. With a range of amazing, cultural trips and activities, delivered solely in French, the girls arrive back to the UK with a new confidence in speaking and every girl says they feel well prepared to continue their French studies at their chosen senior schools.
